visitBerlin is the official tourism portal of the German capital Berlin. The website markets Berlin both as a tourism and as a congress destination, thereby fulfilling the balancing act to inform travellers, to market cultural offers, and to allow direct bookings of hotels, tickets and much more.

The relaunch was a complete technical and graphical redesign. Since the relaunch of Drupal 6 to Drupal 8, the website has been continuously evolved, always updated to the latest Drupal version and expanded with numerous features. With the upgrade to Drupal 10 it was decided to uninstall the panelizer. The views created under the panelizer were equipped with the Layout Builder and all content was migrated by the panelizer into the Layout Builder.

The website has been offering KI Chatbot based on Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Relevant content is regularly converted into LLM Embeddings and stored in a vector database. The system is thus able to give specific answers in complex language, which relate to current content of the visitBerlin.de system.

Recently the backend of visitberlin.de became a complex card application expands which allows the creation of custom map views such as route planning and tour representation. To ensure data sovereignty, the maps are based on a self-hosted Openstreetmap instance.
